Job Description The Optical Manager challenges in a few words: As an optical manager, the candidate must be knowledgeable in all and at least expertise in one of the following fields: Design Engineering: System: Complex & high precision optical system Flat panel display inspection systems Optical test equipment for smart devices Vision system to inspect cosmetic defect such as AOI, AVI… Precision handling and component placement assembly equipment using guided vision Software: Machine vision tools such as Halcon, Matlab, Python, etc… Optical simulation Essential Duties Manage the optical team and drive development of new products and improvements to existing products or new product lines and meet the schedule of projects. Evaluate and ensure design feasibility, optimization and effectiveness to meet both technical requirements and cost targets. Manage and add resource if needed and continuously improve the capability (through training needs analysis and hiring of people with the right skills and knowledge) and structure of the design team to meet business objectives. Mentor, coach, motivate and guide the optical team to increase work productivity. Rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Lead and direct the work of cross-functional teams if required. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Performs other related tasks as assigned by the DE director/GM Qualifications The ideal candidate in a few words Education: MS/PhD degree in Physics (Optic preferred). Experience At least 5 years of experience in the design of test equipment using optical components or vision systems of which 2 years at management level (managing a team of >4 engineers). Extensive hands-on experience involving designing and manufacturing of machines or automation equipment particularly for the electronics, automotive or semiconductor industries. Knowledge & Skills Excellent communication skills within interdepartmental (mechanical, electrical, software, system engineers) and cross-functional (sales, marketing) Excellent in English language proficiency – both spoken and written. Strong people management skills with excellent motivational and leadership skills Work well under pressure Able to present ideas effectively.
