Description

As the Lead Systems Engineer for the optical module, you will drive the end-to-end development and integration of advanced optical modules for AR display products. You will execute validation and verification activities for new product integration to ensure that specified requirements and functions are met.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Optical Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
  • 8+ years of experience in systems design and integration, with a focus on optical modules or AR/VR display systems
  • Experience with optical systems, and general knowledge of optics including imaging, illumination, diffractive optics, radiometry and colorimetry, physical and geometric optics, and polarization
  • Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional teams in a hardware product development environment through to completion while balancing evolving priorities and a broad range of stakeholders
  • Proven experience with system requirements flow-down, module interface definition, and end-to-end validation

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with AR/VR display technologies, waveguides, or diffractive optics
  • Familiarity with consumer electronics manufacturing processes, supplier engagement, and mass production ramp
  • Experience in one or more optical design tools such as Zemax, Code V, LightTools, FRED, or ASAP
  • Experience in design for manufacturing design for cost, quality control and statistical analysis using JMP, Matlab, Python, or similar programs
  • Experience managing time-sensitive projects through to completion while balancing evolving priorities and a broad range of stakeholders
  • Experience with program management or technical leadership roles
Responsibilities
  • Lead the development of novel optical combiners that may include diffractive optics, reflective optics, and classical optics, serving as a key component in AR display products
  • Drive system architecture and requirements definition to create new AR experiences, and help advance technology and research roadmaps
  • Work on all aspects of system engineering from initial identification of risk and issues at the operational level through to the strategic decision processes
  • Demonstrated experience of trying new approaches, balancing risk and impact for developing requirements and verification related deliverables, such as specifications, design criteria, system descriptions, and verification tracking
  • Develop processes to ensure proper documentation at all stages of product development, requirements flow, verification, validation, and interactions between various subsystems
  • Coordinate and lead cross-functional teams including optical, mechanical, materials, and manufacturing engineers to deliver solutions on schedule
  • Lead the hardware product development flow, from initial design and prototyping through integration, validation, and large-scale production
  • Develop and execute comprehensive verification and validation strategies to ensure that hardware systems meet the specified requirements and function correctly in the intended environment
  • Facilitate effective communication across teams, ensuring all stakeholders are aligned on priorities, timelines, and deliverables
  • Contribute to program management activities, tracking progress, resolving issues, and ensuring key milestones are met
  • Document and communicate technical decisions, trade-offs, and system-level impacts for both technical and non-technical stakeholders
