Position:  Optician Department:  Optical Reports to:  Optical Manager FLSA:   Non-Exempt Position Summary: The Optician provides patients/customers with quality optical merchandise and services.  Principle Duties and Responsibilities: * Evaluate patients’ lifestyle needs to custom tailor their eyewear products * Assist patients with frame and lens selection * Educate patients on all products and services offered by the dispensary  * Acquire necessary measurements for frames and lenses * Be well versed in participating vision plans and insurance plans (optical coverage) * Place orders for optical merchandise * Adjust patient’s eyewear to their satisfaction * Verify accuracy of all new eyewear before dispensing * Repair, clean and adjust all walk-in patient’s eyewear * Address patient’s questions and concerns within realm of expertise  * Complete appropriate glasses recheck form and evaluate patient concerns with their eyewear           * Assist in marketing efforts of the optical department and clinic * Maintain agreed upon board space numbers per frame vendor * Merchandise optical products to enhance sales * Maintain appearance of optical department throughout the course of the workday to ensure cleanliness and attractiveness * Basic knowledge of Contact Lenses for ordering and processing, some opticians will do the insertion and removal trainings for new contact lens wearers (Deliveries) * Master dispensary computer applications * Computer skills with ECW software , PCIS and EMR * Post optical charges * Meet dispensary and clinic performance standards and goals as presented yearly * Assist in Daily Balancing Report * Miscellaneous optical/clerical duties as assigned by optical department coordinator * Participate in department meetings and offer ideas and suggestions to better serve our patients * Refer any situations outside realm of expertise to appropriate department or employee * Develops and maintains positive working relationships with other employees * Provide outstanding customer service to every patient * Other duties as assigned Work Relationship and Scope: The Optician reports directly to the Optical Manager.   Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: * High School diploma or equivalent * ABO Certification is required within one year of hire * 1-2 years of optical experience is preferred * Ability to work in a fast-paced medical facility while adhering to HIPAA compliance regulations * Demonstrates knowledge of proper, safe, efficient usage of office equipment, computers, and software; working knowledge of  Microsoft Office Work Conditions: Work is generally performed at the clinic assigned to.  Travel to other clinic locations is possible for coverage.  Hours of work will be dependent on the needs of the Clinic.  Requires the ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.  Occasional lifting (30 pounds), bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, and climbing stairs is required.
