QUALIFICATIONS

  • Certified Optician with valid registration/license in the Optometrists and Opticians Board.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience as an Optician in a clinical or retail setting
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a warm, empathetic approach to patient care.
  • Strong communication abilities to explain complex concepts in clear, accessible language.
  • Proficiency in using optical equipment and lens fitting software.
  • Detail-oriented, with a commitment to accuracy and high standards.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Keen interest in continued education and emerging trends in optometry, especially in myopia prevention and control.

Responsibilities

THE ROLE

As an Optician at our myopia centre, you will be at the heart of our mission to redefine eye care for patients affected by myopia. Your expertise will guide clients through every step—from assessment and education to fittings and follow-up—ensuring they receive optimal, personalised solutions. You will collaborate with ophthalmologists, optometrists, and clinic staff in a supportive environment where ongoing learning and clinical excellence are key.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist patients in selecting, fitting, and adjusting eyeglasses and contact lenses tailored to myopia management, including myopia control lenses, specialty lenses and progressive options.
  • Interpret prescriptions from optometrists and ophthalmologists accurately to ensure proper lens fabrication and fitting.
  • Educate patients and their families on myopia control strategies, proper eyewear care, and lifestyle modifications to slow progression.
  • Perform pre-screening tests, visual acuity assessments and ophthalmic investigations under supervision, contributing to comprehensive patient records.
  • Maintain and update inventory of frames, lenses, and optical equipment, ensuring availability of the latest products in myopia control.
  • Provide exceptional customer service, addressing concerns and troubleshooting issues related to eyewear comfort or vision correction.
  • Support the centre’s outreach initiatives, such as school screenings and community education events.
  • Stay current with developments in optical technology and myopia management through regular training and professional development.
  • Ensure strict compliance with health, safety, and infection control protocols.
