As an Opto-Mechanical Engineer in our research organization, you will play a pivotal role in advancing AR/MR display technologies. You will contribute to the creation of innovative system concepts and drive the design and execution of novel hardware solutions. In this role, you’ll collaborate with experienced engineers, scientists, and leaders—helping to define the cutting edge of AR/MR. We’re seeking candidates with a proven track record in designing and developing opto-mechanical systems, expertise in CAD modeling, and hands-on experience with optics bench setups. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to design, develop, and build advanced optical systems for next-generation AR/MR applications. Responsibilities Drive research and development of opto-mechanical architectures for next-generation novel AR/MR hardware systems Develop and validate innovative subsystem designs, including integration of mechanical, optical, display, and other hardware modules Architect and integrate opto-mechanical subsystems into complex AR/MR platforms, ensuring robust performance and reliability Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., optics, electronics, software, human factors) to achieve seamless system integration Design precision opto-mechanical components using CAD and simulation tools (e.g., SolidWorks, NX, ANSYS, COMSOL) Rapidly prototype and iterate on opto-mechanical assemblies and subsystems for proof-of-concept and feasibility studies Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineering and research team members Establish and promote best practices for opto-mechanical design, analysis, and documentation Plan and execute experiments to validate opto-mechanical and system-level performance of optical systems Develop custom test setups and measurement protocols for optical and integrated hardware systems Present research findings and technical recommendations to internal stakeholders Qualifications BS in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent industry experience 6+ years of experience in Opto-mechanical engineering or a related discipline Experience in optical systems, prototype development or similar Expertise with CAD tools such as SOLIDWORKS, Siemens NX, or similar industry-standard platforms Understanding of mechanical tolerancing, simulation, and analysis Proven technical communication skills Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in the field of Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, or related degree Experience with ZEMAX, CODE V, FRED etc Experience with design/assembly of small form-factor imaging systems Experience designing optical-mechanical systems incorporating diffractive optical elements Experience with polarization optics, films and coatings Familiarity with industry standards and regulations, such as ISO 10110 and ASME Y14.5
