Ottawa Valley Vision is a growing Optometry clinic looking for a compassionate, friendly, organized, and self-motivated individual to join our team on a part-time basis at our Pembroke and Petawawa location.
We are seeking an individual to assist in preliminary optometric testing for our patients. More details regarding the specific job duties are provided below.
Bilingualism is an asset but not required. Prior experience in a medical or administrative setting is also an asset. Applicant MUST BE organized, independent, hard-working, self-motivated, and personable.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Optometric Assistant plays a crucial role in the patient experience by conducting preliminary eye and vision tests to assist our optometrists in diagnosing and treating visual and ocular health issues.

SKILLS:

  • Experience working in a medical office or healthcare setting preferred but not required
  • Strong customer service skills with a focus on patient care
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficient in using electronic medical records systems
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills

Responsibilities
  • Pre-Test Procedures:
  • Greet and prepare patients for their eye examination, ensuring they feel comfortable and informed about the testing procedures
  • Provide explanations and instructions to patients regarding the testing process and any necessary follow-up procedures
  • Perform various preliminary tests and screenings including non-contact tonometry, lensometry, auto-refraction, retinal photography, OCT (optical coherence tomography), visual field tests and other similar tests are per the direction of and under the supervision of a Doctor of Optometry
  • Collect and record comprehensive patient medical and ocular histories
  • Operate and maintain optometric testing equipment, including autorefractors, tonometers, OCTs, retinal cameras, and visual field machines, ensuring they are in proper working condition
  • Accurately document test results and patient information in electronic medical records (EMR) systems
  • Adhere to infection control and hygiene protocols to maintain a clean and safe working environment
  • Administrative Support:
  • Scheduling/rescheduling appointments
  • Handle incoming and outgoing mail and packages
  • Handling incoming and outgoing referrals
  • Scanning confidential documents
  • Assist with office supply and product inventory
  • Office Coordination:
  • Work closely with the Doctors of Optometry to ensure seamless patient care and support
  • Coordinate with other departments to support office operations
  • Perform light housekeeping duties to maintain clean and organized common areas, staff areas and patient examination rooms
