Position Summary The Part-time Optometric Technician is a paraprofessional who supports the Optometrist in delivering quality eye care to patients. This role includes assisting in eye examinations, performing diagnostic testing, educating patients, and managing both clinical and administrative responsibilities. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, compassionate, and dedicated to enhancing the patient’s experience. Duties & Responsibilities Clinical Duties: Assist the Optometrist with patient examinations and diagnostic procedures Take patient histories and perform pre-tests (e.g., visual field testing, tonometry, retinal imaging) Maintain and calibrate ophthalmic equipment and instruments Support contact lens fittings and educate patients on lens care and usage Repair and adjust eyeglasses Prepare and construct eyeglass lenses under supervision Teach staff and patients about eye health and safety Administrative & Technical Duties: Register patients, schedule appointments, and manage insurance forms Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records in the electronic health system Order and track inventory of supplies, frames, and contact lenses Answer phones, accept payments, and respond to patient inquiries Ensure cleanliness and compliance with infection control standards Hours of Operation Monday – Friday 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM Saturday 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM Location Columbus, GA Talbotton, GA Requirements High School diploma or equivalent required 1+ years of experience in an optometric setting preferred, but not required Associate’s degree or certification in Optometric Technology is a plus Strong verbal and written communication skills Basic knowledge of medical terminology and office procedures Proficiency with electronic medical records preferred Compliance & Confidentiality Must adhere to all Federal, State, and Local healthcare regulations including HIPAA Privacy & Security Must sign and abide by Valley Healthcare System’s Pledge of Confidentiality Maintain secure handling of patient information, both physical and digital Follow proper procedures for securing workstations, files, and sensitive areas Physical & Environmental Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and lift patients or equipment (occasionally 50+ lbs) Must have normal visual and hearing acuity May be exposed to communicable diseases, chemicals, and bodily fluids This position is considered at risk for occupational exposure to blood and/or bodily fluids Compensation & Benefits 100% Employer-Paid Medical Coverage, Long-term Disability coverage, and No-cost Dental and Vision services at our Clinics - Additional Dental, Vision, and Short-term disability coverage is available for purchase at a reduce cost for Full-time employee.. 403(b) Retirement Plan Competitive Salary Continuing Medical Education (CME) and Expense Reimbursement Generous Paid Time Off (PTO) and Holidays
