Job Details JOB SUMMARY: This individual is responsible for maximizing the effectiveness, efficiency, and quality of care to patients for Ocala Eye Pa; demonstrating proficiency and excellence in skills within the scope of licensure; and developing an individual optometric practice within the medical/surgical practice. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 1. Licensed optometrist in the state. 2. Two years experience. ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 1. Provider of quality patient eye care. 2. Ability to work with geriatric patients. 3. Analytical problem-solving skills. 4. Strong organization with attention to detail. 5. Empathetic personality with concern for patients’ needs. RESPONSIBILITIES: RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Patient Care a. Works closely with the Ophthalmologist to provide care for medical/surgical patient, whenever feasible. b. Perform routine eye exams including diabetic eye exam, stable pseudophakic exams, and contact lens evaluations/management. c. Provides contact lens instruction to patient, for insertion and removal d. Communicates with primary care offices to ensure diabetic communication reports are received. e. Performs patient examinations within the scope of licensure. f. Performs emergency patient examinations within the scope of licensure. g. Orders diagnostic testing as necessary and refers any unusual results to the Ophthalmologist for review and consultation. h. Refers disease management to appropriate Ocala Eye physician or academic setting as needed. i. Provides after hours call coverage as needed.A schedule will be determined at least 12 months in advance. j. Meets all practice protocols for record keeping and adheres to all regulations regarding patient privacy. 2. Community and Practice Growth a. Performs and manages out-of-office screenings and other community events to promote healthy eyes. b. Works in accord with practice marketing plan to increase his/her optometric practice as well as the overall Ocala Eye practice.This may mean working to develop optometric community referrals, public speaking, or writing patient education or referral education letters/articles. 3. Leadership a. Builds rapport with Ophthalmologist and communicates proactively with administration and Board b. Demonstrates leadership to staff by remaining calm and thoughtful during stressful situations. c. Asks questions to determine need, urgency, and possible solutions before making recommendations d. Participates in continuing education activities that help to develop leadership skills including reading and attending seminars/workshops. SENSORY, MOTOR REQUIREMENTS: Extensive use of exam-lane equipment which will require arm motion, up and down, wrist motion, and pulling/pushing motion. Use of computer system for medical records keyboarding Travel between office locations. Walking between exam rooms and into reception area to meet patients and family members and up/down motion from standing to sitting during exams. Ability to hear and speak clearly in order to communicate with patients and staff Period lifting to help patients in and out of exam chairs (up to 50 pounds) Qualifications
