PURPOSE OF THE JOB:  To support optometrists in providing eye care services by assisting with examinations, conducting preliminary tests, and educating patients on eyewear and contact lens care.  Optometry technicians also help maintain equipment, manage patient records, and ensure a smooth flow of operations within the optometry practice. QUALIFICATIONS: 1. High School diploma or equivalent.  2. Must demonstrate the knowledge and skill to provide age-appropriate care within the Optometry department, understand growth and development principles across all ages (pediatric, adult, geriatric), and interpret patient data accordingly. 3. Proficiencyin conducting preliminary eye tests andassistingoptometrists during examinations.  4. Willingness to travel toBBHCvillages to extend eye care services,demonstratingadaptability and cultural sensitivity. 5. Detail-oriented approach to accuratelymaintainpatient records and ensure compliance with regulations.Must think independently while using critical reasoning skills. 6. Strong communicationskills to educate patients on proper eyewear and contact lens care. 7. Pursuit of certification and licensure or registered Opticianry or Paraoptometric Technician    will be encouraged and supported by the clinic. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Conductspreliminary eye examinations: Performsinitial tests such as visual acuity, intraocular pressure measurement, and basic eye health assessments toassistoptometrists in diagnosing eye conditions and triage patients based on urgency of care. 2. Educatespatients on eyewear and contact lens care: Providesinstructions on proper use, care, and maintenance of glasses, contact lenses, and other vision aids to promoteoptimaleye health. 3. Maintainspatient records: Accurately documentsexamination findings, treatment plans, and other relevant information in electronic health records, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with regulatory standards.   4. Supportsoperational efficiency: Assistswith administrative tasks, managesinventory, schedulesappointments, answersphone calls, collaborateswith interdepartmental teams, andassistsin running the optical department to ensure smooth operations and high-quality patient care.
