Rivers Health is seeking a full-time Registered Nurse for the Operating Room that preform the duties listed below: Registered Nurse will provide direct care to the surgical patients with primary emphasis on the intraoperative period.  Intraoperative activities are directly supervised by the surgeon.  Follows departmental standards, policies and procedures.     JOB RELATIONSHIPS:   Responsible to:  Director of Surgical Services Nature of supervision received:  Indirect Positions directly supervised:  OR Tech Trainees as assigned     ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:   The following is a summary of the major essential functions of this job. The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below; and specific functions may change from time to time.   1. Performs surgical hand scrub and assists the surgeon as assigned.   1. Intraoperative functions include: tissue handling, providing      exposure, use of instrumentation, providing hemostasis and suturing.      May close incision excluding peritoneum and fascia.   1. Maintains knowledge and skill in applying the principles of asepsis      and infection control.      1. Performs effectively in stressful and emergency situations.   1. Maintains competency in knowledge of surgical anatomy, physiology      and operative technique related to the specific operative procedures             in which the RN assists.   1. May function as scrub nurse or circulator as needed.      1. Takes responsibility for specific projects which will ensure      departmental compliance to standards of environmental care,      management of information, care of patients and infection control.   1. Keeps team leaders apprised of special concerns regarding quality,      cost effective care and risk management issues.   1. Performs nursing care in a safe and timely manner according to all      hospital and departmental policies, procedures and philosophies.      1. Assists in education and staff development of nonprofessional      personnel.  Provides technical supervision on the unit.   1. Maintains competency by seeking educational opportunities related to      the field.       1. Continually evaluates care being delivered and constantly strives to      increase quality and efficiency through the hospital-wide      interdisciplinary CQI process.   1. Practices positive customer relations techniques.   1. Assist with unit cleanliness.      1. Works in harmonious manner with team members and strives to create a      climate conducive to open and honest dialogue and sharing of      concerns.   1. Participates in developing and evaluating annual unit goals and      objectives.  Attends unit meetings.      1. Demonstrates excellence in customer service skills.   1. Fosters and atmosphere of teamwork and collaboration.   1. Participates in quality improvement activities including serving on      quality improvement teams.   1. Performs other related duties as required.   1. Complies with Corporate Policies, Departmental Policies and      Procedures and Personnel Employee Handbook.   1. Completes all annual competencies for assigned areas of      responsibility.      1. Cross-trains to other areas as assigned.   Qualifications EDUCATION AND FORMAL TRAINING:   Graduate of an approved school of nursing.  Currently licensed in the state of WV with three to five years nursing experience.  Must have a written recommendation from the Surgical Service Manager and Chief of Surgery.     WORK EXPERIENCE:   Two years current Operating Room experience.     KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:   Must demonstrate proficiency in Perioperative Nursing practice as both scrub and circulator.  Must be ACLS certified or obtainable within six months.  Must be able to perform effectively in stressful and emergency situations.  Ability to perform effectively and harmoniously as a member of the operative team.  Familiarity with functions, standards, regulations, policies, and procedures.  Must demonstrate the ability to meet the special needs of all patients including neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, and geriatrics.  If on call, must be able to report to duty within 20 minutes.  Knowledge and skills will be taught on the job by the various surgeons who work in PVH Operating Room.  
Responsibilities
