Responsibilities/Job Description:
Fairview has an immediate opening for an OR Technology Support Specialist to support Woodwinds Hospital (Woodbury, MN), Southdale Hospital (Edina, MN), and St. John’s Hospital (Maplewood, MN).
This is an onsite role floating between the Woodwinds, Southdale, and St. John’s locations, subject to change based on OR needs
This is a 1.0 FTE (80 hours per two week pay period), benefits-eligible opening on first shift. Shift start times will vary between 6:30AM and 9AM Monday - Friday with rotating call, including weekends.
SUMMARY:
Provides technical support for the operating room by setting up and operating specialty equipment, developing training programs for OR staff, assuring availability of appropriate equipment for daily OR schedule, assists OR staff in problem-solving as needed. Assists and advises OR nursing leadership in planning for and implementing new technologies.
Job Expectations:
Develop own expertise in various pieces of equipment used during operative procedures such as computers and video devices, ultra-sound, imaging and tracking equipment, robotics, microscopes, stapling devices, drills, etc.
Work with OR NM and ANMs to introduce new technologies by evaluating and planning for the interface with the OR environment, training staff, developing protocols, and written guides.
Support OR staff on a daily basis with setting up and operating equipment, as appropriate and feasible. Available to problem-solve as needed.
Assist OR ANMs, NM, and CSP Manager to evaluate new equipment for purchase and use in particular surgical services.
Monitors maintenance—preventive and repairs—with the Biomedical Services Department. Familiar with service contracts.
Coordinate with OR scheduling to assure that appropriate equipment is available—alert ANMs to equipment conflicts.
Assist ANMs and CSP in developing instrument sets, disposables, tools, etc., associated with implementing new pieces of equipment.
Understand the OR environment related to surgical procedures—asepsis, policies, procedures, roles of personnel.
Participate in cost-containment activities including frequency of use of equipment and value to department—assess and provide input for future purchases. Develop visual and written tools and guides for equipment use that are readily accessible and user friendly.
Interface with vendors and company representatives to learn new equipment requirements and develop training programs.
Serve as a resource to staff, surgeons, and ANMs, as needed.
Assist clinical staff in making technology safe and easy to apply to patient care.
Ongoing assessment of competence of clinical staff to handle equipment and associated supplies, instruments.
