Responsibilities
  • Analyse database activity (DBMS errors, daily DBMS space diagnostic checks, DBMS growth, non-application related performance, resource limits, backup process, security and compliance)
  • Propose improvements to optimise configuration and performance
  • Provide administration support for incidents, problems and changes and perform database shutdowns and restarts
  • Collect database statistics, create ad hoc reports and data extracts
  • Apply fixes and patches to address security vulnerabilities and conform to vendor recommendations
  • Manage system users and groups (create and modify DBMS user IDs) and populate the Configuration Management Database (CMDB) with database configuration items in the ITSM tool
  • Manage access control for DBMS in line with Sellafield security baselines; collaborate with the customer on security monitoring and corrective actions
  • Monitor scheduled housekeeping jobs, perform regular maintenance and clean-up of the database environment, and ensure correct functioning of tasks
  • Handle backup, restore, archiving and deletion processes
