DMC Detroit Receiving Hospital, Michigan’s first Level I Trauma Center, helped pioneer the evolution of emergency medicine and currently has one of the busiest and most well-equipped emergency departments anywhere. The first and largest verified burn center in the state is at Receiving, and it is one of only 43 in the nation. Receiving also offers the state’s leading 24/7 hyperbaric oxygen program, Metro Detroit’s first certified primary stroke center, and the nationally recognized and accredited DMC Rosa Parks Geriatric Center of Excellence. Job Summary Under physician and/or manager supervision, utilizes skills and independent judgment acquired via schooling, certification, and/or on the job training to assist the Oral Surgeons to perform oral surgery procedures efficiently. Scrubs on all types of Oral Surgery procedures, handles surgical instruments and materials, anticipates the needs of the Oral Surgeon and assists as directed for both local and general anesthesia. Provides general chair-side assistance (draping patients, suctioning, retraction, sponging, chinning, etc.) and anticipates Oral Surgeon needs for treatment specified for local and general anesthesia. Prepares for scheduled operative procedures assuring that necessary equipment, instruments and supplies are available and ready to use. Maintains a clean and safe treatment room. Removes dressings and sutures. Performs point of care glucose testing per physician orders. Performs dental radiography to insure radiation health and safety, film exposure and processing. Provides coverage of clerical functions, such as answering phones, providing front desk support, etc. 1. High school diploma or equivalent. 2. Certified Dental Assistant, or a minimum of three years of dental assisting experience with certification of completing the Michigan Dental Assisting Radiography Program. 3. BLS certification.
