Position Summary The Order Picker is responsible for accurately and efficiently fulfilling food orders in dry, refrigerated, and frozen warehouse environments. This role plays a critical part in maintaining product integrity, cold chain compliance, and food safety standards while preparing agency orders for delivery or pickup. The position involves picking, palletizing, staging, and supporting inventory and warehouse operations in a fast-paced setting. Work in perishable storage areas requires regular operation in cooler and freezer environments ranging from –10°F to 40°F. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Order Picking & Fulfillment Accurately pick food products from dry, refrigerated, and frozen storage locations for: Agency pickup Mobile delivery programs Palletize, label, and stretch-wrap product to ensure safe transport on MANNA or agency vehicles Maintain high levels of accuracy when picking, scanning, and recording product Track pallet counts, pallet weights, and order sequencing to support proper vehicle assignment and efficient loading Communicate order and pallet information to drivers to support safe and efficient loading Program & Inventory Support Pick product for TEFAP (The Emergency Food Assistance Program) and other designated programs as assigned Participate in periodic inventory counts and inventory control activities Assist with replenishment of pick locations as directed by the Product Manager or Distribution Manager Equipment & Systems Properly use, store, and care for handheld scanning equipment Safely operate warehouse equipment, including forklifts, reach trucks, and electric/manual pallet jacks (as trained and authorized) Loading, Receiving & Transfers Assist with loading outgoing product for: Agency pickups Mobile deliveries Transfers to other MANNA sites or partner food banks Assist with unloading incoming product and placing it in designated storage locations Complete required paperwork (order sheets, invoices, transfer documents) as directed Food Safety, Cold Chain & Sanitation Support daily food safety practices, including: Temperature monitoring and cold chain awareness Proper handling of perishable food items Assist in maintaining compliance with AIB food safety and sanitation standards Perform routine warehouse sanitation tasks, which may include: Sweeping, mopping, dusting, cobweb removal Restroom cleaning Equipment safety checks Pest control duties Other cleaning tasks as assigned Safety & Compliance Follow all established safety policies and procedures Actively participate in safety programs and practices to reduce workplace injuries Always work in a safe and responsible manner Requirements Authorized to work in the United States High school diploma or GED required 1–2 years of related warehouse or order-picking experience preferred Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English Demonstrated organizational and time-management skills Ability to meet productivity standards related to order picking goals Experience operating load-handling equipment (forklifts, pallet jacks, reach trucks) preferred Driver & Vehicle Use (If Applicable) A valid driver’s license and clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) are required only if the position involves operating MANNA vehicles Must meet MANNA’s insurance requirements when assigned driving duties Additional Skills & Attributes Strong attention to detail, especially when handling perishable food Prior experience working in cold storage environments preferred Positive attitude and strong customer service skills Ability to work respectfully with a diverse group of staff, volunteers, donors, and agency partners Problem-solving and analytical skills Interest in supporting and advancing MANNA Foodbank’s mission Knowledge of food bank operations is a plus Working Conditions Work is performed primarily in a warehouse environment Temperatures vary by location and season; perishable areas range from –10°F to 40°F Fast-paced, hands-on physical work Noise levels range from moderate to moderately loud Physical Demands This position requires regular physical activity consistent with warehouse operations. Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and use of hands and arms Regular lifting and carrying of food products and materials, typically up to 50 pounds, with occasional heavier items handled using team lifts or mechanical assistance Pushing and pulling loaded pallet jacks, including managing palletized loads Ability to operate warehouse equipment safely Visual ability to read labels, operate equipment, and work safely in a warehouse setting Schedule & Emergency Response Monday–Friday, with a flexible schedule once fully trained Typical hours fall between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Occasional evenings or weekends may be required In the event of a federally, state, or locally declared emergency, MANNA Foodbank is considered an essential service, and employees may be required to support emergency operations
