JOB SUMMARY

Battelle’s Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosives (CBRNE) Business Line is currently seeking candidates for a full time, permanent position as an Organic Chemist II. This position is located in Columbus, Ohio.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in Organic Chemistry with 5 years of laboratory experience or a PhD in Organic Chemistry.
  • Demonstrated experience in the synthesis, purification, and characterization of small molecules
  • Familiarity with common analytical equipment used for characterization of small molecules including Gas Chromatography (GC), Gas Chromatography coupled with detectors such as Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS), Liquid Chromatography (LC), Liquid Chromatography coupled with detectors such as Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS) and NMR
  • The ability to work in a team environment
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Familiarity with MS Office
  • A commitment to continuous learning and a demonstrated ability to perform in a fast-paced environment with rapidly-changing priorities.
  • Incumbent must successfully pass medical screening, including the ability to wear personal protection equipment (PPE) and work with highly hazardous materials
  • Sole US citizenship, with the ability to obtain and maintain required government security clearances as a condition of employment

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in pharmaceutical product synthesis and/or production
  • Experience with phosphorus chemistry
  • Proposal writing experience
  • Experience with synthesis of peptides and peptide adducts
  • Experience with prep scale liquid chromatography
  • Previous research experience related to chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and/or explosive (CBRNE) threats
  • Experience working with toxic chemicals
  • Experience operating in an ISO environment
Responsibilities
  • Design and develop practical synthesis routes to target compounds
  • Execute the synthesis, purification, and characterization of target compounds efficiently
  • Maintain a detailed laboratory notebook according to corporate standards and SOPs
  • Work closely with all members of the synthesis team
  • Provide technical input for reports
  • Manage time effectively
  • Other duties as assigned
