Reporting to the Head of Cultural and Organisational Development and the OD Manager, this role is responsible for the design, implementation, and evaluation of OD programmes and staff engagement initiatives. These activities will align with the Trust’s strategic priorities, promoting our core values and expected behaviours to foster a positive, inclusive, and high-performing workplace culture.
Change Management & Transformation: Supporting leaders and managers to navigate organisational change effectively, ensuring staff engagement and minimising resistance to change.
Culture & Wellbeing: Embedding a compassionate, inclusive culture where staff feel empowered, valued, and supported in their wellbeing.
Team Development: Facilitating team interventions, coaching, and capability-building initiatives that enhance leadership effectiveness and team performance.
Staff Engagement & Experience: Designing initiatives that actively involve staff in decision-making and foster a sense of belonging, ensuring the NHS People Promise is upheld.
Continuous Improvement: Using data, feedback, and best practices to inform OD strategies and interventions, measuring their impact on organisational performance and patient outcomes.

The primary purpose of this role is to collaborate with leaders, teams, and colleagues across our Trust to design and deliver impactful organisational development (OD) initiatives that enhance patient care and strengthen our commitment to developing, supporting, and valuing our workforce.
This role will work in partnership with key stakeholders to create an environment where individuals and teams thrive, barriers to success are addressed, and a culture of continuous learning and improvement is embedded across the Trust.
Under the direction of the Head of Cultural and Organisational Development, design, coordinate, deliver, and evaluate high-quality OD interventions that significantly enhance the performance and effectiveness of the Trust, its divisions, departments, and teams—aligning with strategic priorities and organisational values.
Utilise a range of recognised OD and learning theories, alongside evidence and data analysis related to staff and patient experience, to inform the design and facilitation of OD interventions.
Provide expert OD advice, support, and constructive challenge to individuals, teams, and established ways of working.
Collaborate with colleagues in the People & OD service, senior managers, and other stakeholders to identify, diagnose, and commission appropriate OD support for divisions, departments, and teams as required.

Key relationship with the rest of the Associate Director of Education Learning and Cultures portfolio.
Collate, analyse, and interpret complex quantitative and qualitative data, triangulating survey data with key performance and HR metrics. Provide expert recommendations—both verbally and through written reports—on appropriate OD solutions and interventions, handling and communicating sensitive and/or contentious information as necessary.
Monitor and support the implementation of agreed OD projects and interventions, ensuring timely delivery in accordance with expected timescales and key performance indicators (KPIs). Adapt plans and re-prioritise work as required to achieve these objectives.
Engage with Leadership, OD, and non-OD colleagues within the Integrated Care System (One Gloucestershire) and external organisations, including OD providers, the Do OD Network, Health Education England, and the NHS Leadership Academy.
Leadership and Talent Development
Leadership and Manager Development initiatives fall under the direction of the Head of People Development and Lead for People Development. The Head of Cultural and Organisational Development collaborates with the Head of People Development to ensure the OD Practitioner effectively supports the Leadership Development team as needed.
For accredited leadership programmes, fulfil all requirements related to candidate selection, programme delivery, assessment, verification, and record-keeping.
Establish and maintain successful working relationships with external providers such as ILM, EMCC, universities, apprenticeship providers, and the NHS Leadership Academy.
Partner with leaders and divisions to embed talent development into the organisational culture.
Provide coaching to Trust leaders (training will be provided if not already a certified coach).
Staff Engagement
Design, facilitate, monitor, and evaluate engagement and involvement events with multi-disciplinary colleagues across the Trust.
Support the Staff Experience and Culture Manager in preparing, promoting, and analysing the results of the annual NHS staff survey.
Collaborate with divisional colleagues to identify, design, implement, monitor, and evaluate initiatives that improve staff engagement and experience, leveraging data from the annual NHS staff survey and other pulse surveys.
Physical, Mental, and Emotional Effort
Workload Management: Manage and prioritise a diverse portfolio of OD, leadership/talent development, staff engagement, and project-based responsibilities to meet deadlines and objectives.
Physical Effort: The role involves a mix of desk-based work, meetings, and classroom/training delivery, requiring prolonged periods of sitting, standing, and presenting. Additionally, the role may involve transporting training materials and setting up training venues, including moving tables and chairs.
Mental Effort: Requires prolonged periods of concentration, data analysis, and report writing within defined time constraints.
Emotional Effort: Exposure to potentially distressing information and challenging situations while coaching individuals or facilitating group discussions.
