Ensure the patient is comfortable during procedures and respond to patient needs as necessary. Prepare patients for orthodontic treatments, explaining procedures and addressing any concerns. Ensure that patients are properly positioned and that instruments and materials are within reach to assist the orthodontist efficiently. Prepare and sterilize instruments, equipment, and materials used for treatments, ensuring compliance with infection control protocols. Maintain clinical areas, ensuring they are clean, organized, and well-stocked with necessary supplies. Take diagnostic X-rays, panoramic images, or digital scans as required for treatment planning. Assist in maintaining accurate patient records by updating and recording treatment progress, notes, and X-ray results in the practice management system (EHR/PMS). Assist with the fitting, adjustment, and removal of orthodontic appliances such as retainers, expanders, and braces. Provide post-treatment instructions to patients for retainer care and the importance of regular follow-up visits. Requirements High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of an accredited orthodontic assisting program preferred. Minimum of 1-2 years of experience as an orthodontic assistant or dental assistant, with a focus on orthodontic procedures preferred. Knowledge of orthodontic procedures, appliances, and terminology. Strong manual dexterity and attention to detail. Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact with patients, families, and the orthodontic team. Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations.
