Description Job Title Orthodontic Assistant Reports to Lead Orthodontist / Clinical Manager Location Roos Orthodontics, Redmond, WA Job Summary The Orthodontic Assistant is a key member of the clinical team who supports the orthodontist in delivering high-quality patient care. The role involves assisting with orthodontic procedures, patient education, record-keeping, and maintaining clinical efficiency and patient comfort. Key Responsibilities Assist the orthodontist during a variety of procedures, including bonding, adjustments, wire changes, appliance placement/removal, etc. Take orthodontic records: impressions, photographs, radiographs (x-rays, pano, cephalo, etc.), digital scans if applicable. Prepare and sterilize instruments, maintain treatment rooms, set up trays. Educate patients & parents/guardians on oral hygiene, appliance care, what to expect at appointments, and maintenance of braces/retainers/appliances. Monitor patient progress, assist with appliance refinements, wire changes, etc. Clean, maintain, and organize the clinical area; ensure supplies are stocked. Aid in patient scheduling/flow as needed; ensure patients are comfortable and appointments run smoothly. Maintain accurate patient treatment records, clinical notes, treatment charts. Follow all safety, infection control, and radiation safety protocols. Assist with other related tasks or duties as assigned (e.g., coordinating with lab, aligner/retainer fabrication, possibly light front-desk or administrative support in some offices). Qualifications & Skills Valid Washington State Dental Assistant registration/license (or other required licensure for dental/orthodontic assistants). Certification or training in dental radiography / x-ray safety. Previous experience in orthodontics is preferred; general dental assisting experience and willingness to learn is acceptable. Familiarity with orthodontic software/tools (e.g. digital scanners, practice management software). Strong attention to detail, excellent chairside manners, good manual dexterity. Good communication skills, personable, able to work well with children, teens, and adults. Ability to multitask and adapt to varying patient needs and procedures. Reliable, punctual, team-oriented. Working Conditions Clinical work in treatment rooms, exposure to dental materials, noises (drills, etc.), occasional exposure to radiation (with safety procedures). Must wear protective equipment (masks, gloves, eyewear). Standing for prolonged periods; bending, stretching as needed. Hours per week: full-time (or part-time depending on clinic needs), may include some evenings or Saturday hours depending on schedule. Compensation & Benefits Paid time off, holidays.
