Description

Orthodontic Dental Lab Assistant Manager
Location: Calgary, AB
Schedule: Full-time, Monday–Friday (day shift; flexibility during peak periods)

OVERVIEW:

We’re seeking an Orthodontic Dental Lab Assistant Manager to lead day-to-day workflow in an orthodontic laboratory setting while serving as a primary liaison to orthodontists and practice teams. This role blends case coordination and customer communication with hands-on technical expertise in fixed and removable orthodontic appliances and digital workflows (scans, CAD, and 3D printing).

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3–5+ years in an orthodontic or dental lab with demonstrated experience in orthodontic appliance fabrication and finishing.
  • Working knowledge of CAD/CAM orthodontic tools (e.g., 3Shape Ortho/Appliance Designer, equivalent) and 3D printing workflows.
  • Strong customer service and professional communication skills; confident with dental/orthodontic terminology.
  • Proven ability to prioritize, delegate, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Asset: experience training others; exposure to aligner trimming/finishing or indirect bonding tray workflows.
Responsibilities
  • Coordinate daily case intake, scheduling, and routing; monitor WIP and remove bottlenecks to meet turnaround SLAs.
  • Communicate with orthodontists and practice staff to clarify prescriptions, discuss appliance options, and confirm timelines.
  • Oversee appliance fabrication quality across retainers (Hawley/Essix), expansion devices (e.g., Hyrax), functional appliances (e.g., Herbst), and indirect bonding trays.
  • Support digital production (scan processing, model prep, appliance design, and 3D print/finishing); ensure accurate records and version control.
  • Track remake/adjustment trends; implement corrective actions and standard work.
  • Coach/mentor junior technicians on orthodontic standards, safety, and productivity best practices.
  • Maintain documentation (case notes, photos, QC logs) in LIMS/ERP; prepare clear status updates for clinicians.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement (workflow, materials, nesting/print strategies, and preventive maintenance).
