Under the direction of the Bone & Joint Clinic manager, The Ortho Technician works as a member of the healthcare team, collaborating on the delivery of care to meet the needs of patients/clients. The 0rthopedic Technician is accountable for their own practice according to the standards defined by the College of LPN of Alberta. The ortho tech demonstrates competence in delivering safe, effective and efficient care for Orthopedic patients in the Bone and Joint Clinics. The position requires the incumbent to adapt and thrive in a fast paced, high volume orthopedic clinic. Most of the time will be spent in the Cast Clinic with occasional coverage in other areas of the bone & joint clinic as required. Direct care includes carrying out surgeon’s orders to apply/remove/adjust casts, splints and braces. Perform wound care, dressing changes, suture, staple and/or pin removal.
Description:
As an Orthopaedic Technician (Ortho Tech), you will apply, adjust, and remove casts, splints and traction equipment utilized in the care of orthopaedic patients (clients, residents). You will observe, monitor, report and document changes in the patient’s physical, mental and emotional state, while providing safe and effective, quality care. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
