Orthotic Fitter/Athletic Trainer/Physical Therapist General Summary/Responsibilities: The Orthotic Fitter is responsible for providing patient care under the supervision of a certified orthotist of off the shelf and prefabricated orthoses/braces. He/she must evaluate patient’s need, perform the fitting, making minor modifications as needed, and adjust to ensure proper fit. He/she must maintain good documentation of services provided and may be asked to participate in provider training. Qualifications Education Minimum Level of Education Required: Bachelor's degree Additional requirements:  Area of study or major: Athletic Training or Physical Therapy  Preferred educational qualifications: Must be a BOC or ABC Certified Orthotic Fitter Licensure/Certification/Registration  American Board for Certification or Board of Certification Certified Orthotic Fitter  CPR Required  Athletic Trainer  Physical Therapist Experience Minimum Level of Experience Required: 1 - 3 years of job-related experience Knowledge/Skills  Demonstrated ability to effectively fit and deliver non-custom orthotic devices such as; cervical orthoses not require more than minor modification; pressure gradient hose; trusses; non-complex prefabricated spinal orthoses (except those used to treat unstable spinal conditions), and prefabricated orthoses of upper and lower extremities (excluding those used in treatment of bone fractures)  Thorough understanding of medical terminology  Effective communication skills for accurate, concise and organized oral and written presentation and reports to patient and staff  Ability to instruct clinical and non-clinical personnel and customers on objectives of patient care services  Excellent customer service skills required.  Ability to evaluate information and make independent judgments  Experience with computer informational systems  Must have good organizational skills and work well with others  Knowledge of bracing/orthotics  Effective time management/organizational skills  Board certification as Orthotic Fitter or a board-certified Orthotist
