Bao Mama in Oshawa, ON is looking for Part-Time Bao Bun Baker to join our 28 person strong team. We are located on 70 King St. E. Our ideal candidate is self-driven, punctual, and engaged.
The Bao Bun Baker is responsible for preparing, shaping, steaming, and baking a variety of bao buns to a consistently high standard. This role requires precision, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment. The baker will collaborate closely with the kitchen team to ensure timely production and maintain the quality, taste, and appearance of all bao products.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • Minimum 1 year of professional baking, pastry, or bread-making experience (bao bun or Asian bread experience preferred).
  • Valid Food Safety Certification.
  • Strong understanding of dough fermentation, proofing, and steaming processes.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to consistency.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 kg (55 lbs) and stand for extended periods.
  • Good communication skills and a team-oriented mindset.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare dough for bao buns according to standard recipes and production schedules.
  • Measure and mix ingredients accurately, ensuring proper fermentation and proofing times.
  • Shape and fill bao buns with various fillings, ensuring consistency in size and weight.
  • Operate and maintain steamers, ovens, and other baking equipment safely and efficiently
  • Monitor quality at each stage of production, adjusting techniques as necessary.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and food-safe work area in compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Assist with inventory management, including tracking ingredient levels and reporting shortages.
  • Collaborate with chefs and other team members to meet daily and event-specific production targets.
  • Follow portion control guidelines to minimize waste.
  • Contribute to menu development by testing new dough or filling variations when required.
