REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics or related field strongly preferred.
  • 2-3 years in a supervisor or management role within the warehouse shipping or receiving environment required.
  • Forklift experience required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Software (Outlook, Word, Excel) and PDF software.
  • Knowledge working with Syspro or similar ERP software strongly preferred.
  • Ability to manage a team and communicate effectively.
  • Well organized, with the ability to track multiple activities involving numerous details.
  • Ability to work on assignments that are moderately difficult, requiring judgment in resolving issues or in making recommendations.
  • Excellent customer service and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently with a minimum of oversight.

Responsibilities

ROLE OVERVIEW:

The Outbound Logistics Manager is responsible for overseeing the efficient, cost-effective, and timely movement of products from the company’s warehouse or distribution center to customers or other final destinations. This role focuses on shipment planning, carrier coordination, performance tracking, and team leadership to ensure that delivery commitments are met and customer satisfaction is achieved. Duties may vary to include some or all of the following job responsibilities.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversees and coordinates all outbound logistics operations, ensuring timely and accurate shipment of finished goods to customers and distribution centers.
  • Develops and manages outbound transportation schedules, routes, and carrier performance to optimize cost, service, and delivery timelines.
  • Monitors and enforces truckload limits, packaging requirements, and compliance with shipping regulations, ensuring safety and efficiency.
  • Reviews shipping orders, customer delivery requirements, and route schedules to establish daily and long-term dispatch priorities.
  • Communicates continuously with warehouse staff, carrier representatives, customer service, and internal departments to coordinate execution of outbound shipments.
  • Operates a forklift or material handling equipment as required to support outbound processes.
  • Tracks key performance indicators (KPIs) for outbound logistics, including on-time delivery rates, freight cost per unit, and carrier reliability.
  • Maintains alignment of outbound logistics with budget requirements, looking for continuous improvement opportunities in cost, service, and productivity.
  • Serves as the primary point of contact for carriers, third-party logistics providers (3PLs), and outbound freight vendors, fostering relationships and ensuring service levels are met.
  • Ensures shipping and staging areas are clean, safe, and compliant, and oversees housekeeping practices by all outbound team members.
  • Leads, trains, and evaluates the outbound logistics team, promoting professional development and clear communication of goals.
  • Supports cross-functional initiatives in supply chain planning, inventory control, and customer satisfaction.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
