A PRIVATE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN HAMILTON IS SEEKING A NURTURING, CREATIVE, AND STRUCTURED OUTDOOR LEARNING SUPPORT EDUCATOR TO WORK WITH A SMALL GROUP OF STUDENTS — INCLUDING THOSE WITH SENSORY-SEEKING BEHAVIORS, SELF-REGULATION CHALLENGES, AND DEVELOPING SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL SKILLS. THE EDUCATOR WILL DESIGN AND LEAD A STRUCTURED, INCLUSIVE OUTDOOR PROGRAM THAT BLENDS MOVEMENT, SENSORY INTEGRATION, EMOTIONAL LITERACY, AND COOPERATIVE PLAY WITH ACADEMIC ENRICHMENT AND AGE-APPROPRIATE ENGAGEMENT.

This position is ideal for educators with experience in outdoor education, early childhood special education, occupational therapy support, or behavioral intervention, who thrive in flexible, movement-rich, and student-centered environments.

Key Responsibilities

Program Planning & Delivery

  • Design and facilitate structured outdoor learning sessions that incorporate sensory play, gross motor activities, nature-based experiences, and social-emotional skill building.
  • Integrate academic elements (e.g., storytelling, literacy games, numeracy, seasonal learning) into outdoor activities.
  • Support transitions and regulation using consistent visual schedules, timers, and calming tools.

Emotional Regulation & Social Learning

  • Implement Zones of Regulation activities through outdoor role-play, group challenges, and nature exploration.
  • Guide students in emotional labeling and problem-solving using puppets, stories, and movement.
  • Reinforce personal space boundaries, respectful communication, and self-advocacy in real-time interactions.

Sensory & Movement Support

  • Plan and provide daily sensory-rich experiences (e.g., digging, climbing, balancing, nature walks) that support students’ regulation needs.
  • Create adaptable outdoor environments that include calming zones, tactile stations, and proprioceptive tasks.
  • Collaborate with school support staff to align with individual regulation strategies and sensory profiles.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work closely with classroom educators, learning specialists, and parents to coordinate supports.
  • Contribute to student support planning through ongoing observations and feedback.
  • Maintain brief documentation of activities, observations, and student responses.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $30.00-$33.00 per hour
Expected hours: 38 per week
