OUTREACH & CONTENT SPECIALIST

Department: MARKETING Reports to: Marketing Manager
Wage Scale: Non-Operations
Pay Class: B
Wage Range: $22.29 to $27.83 per hour

JOB SUMMARY:

As a member of the Marketing team of the Davis Food Co-op, the Outreach & Content Specialist, work under the supervision of the Marketing Manager to become an expert in our local vendors and farms and outreach initiatives. This role is also the point of contact for internal and external outreach and leads Teaching Kitchen planning, promoting, logistics, and content. This position requires effective compliance with all aspects of the store including customer service, department assistance, profitability planning, productivity and proper workplace conditions while understanding and upholding Davis Food Co-op’s End Statements.
This is a full-time hourly position requiring up to 40 hours/week. Employee must be available to match the business needs and will be required to work evenings & weekends as necessary.

EDUCATION

Certifications or education in marketing, communications or human relations/behavior, psychology, or similar preferred

EXPERIENCE

Previous experience with copywriting, storytelling, social media, general marketing, or speaking/teaching is required. Must be a fast learner and solution oriented.
A plus if you also have experience at a professional firm or grocery store

Responsibilities

1. CUSTOMER SERVICE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Exceed our customer’s expectations for service and provide a welcoming environment for all in accordance with the DFC’s customer service standards
  • Greet and offer assistance to customers while in store. Demonstrate excellent customer service at all times
  • Demonstrate proper phone and email etiquette and delivery of messages
  • Know store layout and know which products belong to which departments
  • Be able to explain the benefits of Co-op membership. Understand and be able to explain the difference between a cooperative and other business models

2. CONTENT STRATEGY & MARKETING RESPONSIBILITIES:

a. Copywriting & Social Media:

  • Brainstorm, research, plan and execute compelling recipes, blogs, social media posts, newsletter copy, and other marketing content as needed
  • Write clear, engaging copy with a distinct voice and proper grammar, spelling and punctuation
  • Stay up to date with social media trends across audio and visual videos and schedule staff to participate in recreating various types of content
  • Must be comfortable in front of a camera and appearing in videos for social media, Teaching Kitchen classes, demos, social media, etc.
  • Responsible for creating and implementing digital content from start to finish of process including recording and editing videos
  • Work with Marketing Manager and Marketing Specialist to develop content calendar featuring our brands throughout each month for social media, blog, email, and weekly ad
  • Professionally engage with customers online, both through email and on social media
  • Brand Content Strategy
  • Meet each month with dept. manager to document their farm/vendor differentiators, stories, and obtain photography/photographs for online and in-store content
  • Maintain brand/dept tracking sheets and folders with pertinent information, up to date photography, and notes/content
  • Audit all other departments on a bi-yearly basis to identify all local brands, their story, and location
  • Collaborate with the Graphic Designer, Marketing Specialist, and Marketing Manager on marketing project content
  • Work with department managers to ensure that our differentiator tags are displayed for all local and small business brands

5. SAFETY AND SANITATION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Wear proper clothing during shift, consistent with current store and department uniform and appearance standards.
  • Avoid injury; demonstrate proper lifting techniques and follow proper steps in the event of an injury.
  • Follow accepted food safety practices.
  • Handle all store equipment with care; observe all safety precautions and assist others in doing so.
  • Follow DFC safety policy at all times and assist in maintaining all areas of the store in safe condition.
  • Report unsafe, or potentially unsafe conditions.
    · Abide by all DFC policy and procedures as specified in the DFC Employee Handbook.
    · Perform other duties as assigned by management.
