Saints Simon and Jude Catholic Church   POSITION TITLE: Outreach and Evangelization Minister JOB CLASSIFICATION: Full Time DEPARTMENT/PROGRAM: Outreach REPORTS TO: Business Manager SCHEDULE: Varies PAY RANGE: $70,304 - $78,000 Based on experience, education and qualifications.   Summary: The Outreach & Evangelization Minister at Saints Simon and Jude Catholic Church is a mission-driven and forward-thinking leader responsible for expanding the parish’s charitable outreach, evangelization presence, and community engagement within Huntington Beach and the surrounding area.   This position is ideal for a visionary builder who can strengthen existing outreach efforts while launching new initiatives, most notably the development of a parish-based Food Pantry and Community Assistance Program. The Minister will create pathways for parishioners to encounter Christ through service, hospitality, collaboration, and discipleship, while building a strong volunteer-based outreach and evangelization culture.   Key Responsibilities: Because all Saints Simon and Jude Catholic Church employees represent the Roman Catholic Church, they are expected to conduct themselves according to the goals and mission of the Church in performing their work.   Outreach Ministry Development & Coordination: * Lead and coordinate parish outreach efforts that support individuals and families in need. * Evaluate current parish outreach activities and identify opportunities for growth and expansion. * Build systems, structure, and volunteer leadership to ensure sustainable outreach ministry development. * Ensure outreach efforts are consistent, welcoming, organized, and aligned with Catholic mission. * Develop and lead an intentional Evangelization Team focused on welcoming, inviting, and connecting parishioners and visitors. * Create initiatives that reach inactive Catholics, visitors, and new families in Huntington Beach. * Coordinate parish engagement opportunities such as ministry fairs, welcome weekends, service Sundays, and seasonal outreach campaigns. * Support parish culture-building through intentional hospitality and evangelization strategy.   Community Networking & Relationship Building: * Serve as a parish representative and relationship-builder in Huntington Beach. * Build partnerships with local schools, city leadership, nonprofits, shelters, service organizations, and faith communities. * Identify opportunities for community collaboration and interfaith service projects aligned with Catholic identity and diocesan guidelines. * Attend community events and meetings to strengthen the parish’s presence and reputation. * Support interfaith outreach initiatives when appropriate, ensuring alignment with Catholic identity and diocesan guidance. * Build relationships with other faith communities and community organizations to foster unity through service and shared mission. * Coordinate collaborative community events and service opportunities that reflect Catholic values   Long-term Outreach Expansion Initiatives: * Assist in identifying long-term outreach opportunities for the parish, including the potential future development of a parish food pantry, community resource program, or structured charitable assistance initiatives. * Research best practices and partnership models that could support future parish outreach growth. * Provide recommendations to parish leadership for scalable and sustainable outreach expansion.   Administrative, Planning & Strategic Leadership: * Maintain outreach calendars, program schedules, volunteer rosters, and ministry documentation. * Track ministry participation, volunteer hours, and community impact metrics. * Assist with outreach budgets, fundraising needs, and donation campaigns. * Ensure compliance with diocesan Safe Environment policies and parish standards. * Participate in parish staff meetings and contribute to parish strategic planning. * Recruit and train volunteers to support outreach initiatives and evangelization programming. * Build a leadership pipeline by mentoring volunteer coordinators and ministry leaders. * Provide volunteer formation opportunities that connect service to Catholic discipleship. * Promote a culture of joyful, mission-driven service rooted in the Gospel   Qualifications: * Practicing Catholic in good standing with a passion for evangelization and service. * Bachelor’s degree in ministry, theology, nonprofit leadership, social work, communications, or related field. * Strong understanding of Catholic mission and the call to charity. * Proven experience in outreach ministry, nonprofit leadership, volunteer coordination, or community engagement. * Strong organizational skills and ability to build programs from the ground up. * Strong communication skills and ability to recruit and motivate volunteers. * Comfortable working evenings/weekends as needed. * Experience launching community programs (food pantry, social services, volunteer programs). * Experience working with community partners and faith-based networks. Work Conditions * The position primarily involves work in an office and parish setting, requiring frequent use of standard office equipment such as computers, telephones, printers, credit card terminals, postage machines, and filing systems. * Occasional evening and weekend work may be required to support department programs, operational needs, or campus events. * Must be available to adjust the work schedule as needed to meet organizational deadlines, operational demands, ministry activities or special projects. * Regular interaction with students, staff, faculty, and visitors in a professional and faith-based environment. * Some local travel may be required for meetings, trainings, or work‑related events.   Physical Requirements  * Ability to remain seated for extended periods while performing administrative and computer‑based tasks. * Frequent walking, standing, and movement around the parish and office facilities to support programs and operational needs. * Ability to lift and carry items up to 25 pounds, such as materials, supplies, and event equipment. * Manual dexterity required for operating office equipment, preparing materials, and managing paperwork. * Visual and auditory ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, students, and visitors in person, via email, and by phone. * Must be able to set up and dismantle chairs, tables, and other equipment required for meetings, programs, or campus activities as needed.
