THE ROLE  The Outreach Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of animals between the Edmonton Humane Society and off-site locations within Edmonton and surrounding areas. This role plays a critical part in ensuring animal welfare during transport and supporting Operations through vehicle and trailer use as required. KEY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES PRE-PLANNING, VEHICLE INSPECTION & SAFETY * Complete pre-trip inspection checklists to ensure EHS vehicles are in proper working condition * Ensure vehicles are adequately supplied and fueled (gas, water, etc.) * Use navigation applications consistently to determine the most efficient routes * Follow all Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) and driving safety procedures as outlined in the OHS manual  ANIMAL HANDLING & TRANSPORTATION * Collect, secure, and transport animals using low-stress handling techniques * Ensure the safety and welfare of animals during transportation in compliance with OHS guidelines  * Safely transport animals to accurate destinations within Edmonton and surrounding areas * Attend required appointments related to animal transportation * Transport deceased animals for cremation from transfer partners, as required COMMUNICATION, DELIVERIES & DONATIONS * Communicate effectively with delivery contacts regarding transportation timing and locations * Collect and deliver donations to the Edmonton Humane Society, as required EDUCATION & REQUIREMENTS * Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License * Clean three (3) year driver’s abstract with no demerits or traffic violations * Experience driving a truck and trailer, including in tight or confined areas * Experience leveling a trailer * Interest in animal welfare is considered an asset SKILLS & ABILITIES The ideal candidate has strong knowledge of navigation within the City of Edmonton and surrounding areas, is physically able to lift up to 50 lbs, and consistently demonstrates safe and defensive driving practices. They possess good interpersonal skills, are comfortable using assertive communication when required, and demonstrate strong time management skills with a high level of punctuality. HOURS OF WORK * Standard hours: This position requires travel throughout Edmonton and involves daytime weekday shifts, two to four days per week, ideally between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., from April 13 to September 3, 2026 * Flexibility may be required for evenings, weekends or special events.
