Oshki-Giizhig is an Indigenous-based non-profit organization. Our vision is a healthy community built on Indigenous journeys towards wellness. Our mission is to walk beside, advocate and support people living with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) and or other disorders. Strengthened by cultural practices and traditional teachings, supports will assist in restoring balance to individuals and the community affected by trauma and violence. Support Programs serve individuals who live in Winnipeg, are 16 years of age or older, living with FASD and/or other disorders.

QUALIFICATIONS

Post-secondary education in social justice, Indigenous studies, social services, social work, health related and/or a combination of pertinent experiences in these areas. Experiences with cultural activities and understanding of Indigenous concepts of care and support. Knowledge of traditional teachings, experience facilitating group activities and understanding of indigenous concepts of care and support. Knowledge of disabilities, disorders and mental health issues.

Responsibilities

The Support Mentor will facilitate a range of daily activities based on the medicine wheel with participants. Support participant needs and help with taking the participant to appointments, help with budgeting, and everyday daily needs. These activities are to be considerate and supportive to participants with FASD and other disorders. Support Mentors are also responsible to pick up and prepare any materials and supplies as needed. Other duties as assigned by the Cultural and Day Services Manager to ensure that program activities meet the needs of participants. Additionally, this role will involve engaging with our community by providing transportation services for participants. This includes driving individuals to and from various locations as needed to support their participation in our programs or services.
