Description

QUALIFICATIONS:

· Certification in Social Work, Addictions and Mental Health, or related Human Services field
· Experience working with Indigenous communities and/or individuals experiencing homelessness or poverty
· Have knowledge of Indigenous cultures, histories, and issues facing urban Indigenous peoples
· ASIST certified
· First Aid certified
· Be comfortable acting as an advocate for individuals
· Be able to set boundaries and have clear understanding of self
· Be willing to work evenings and weekends as needed on a flex schedule
· Reliable registered vehicle and possess valid class 5 driver’s license
· Provide a current and clear Criminal Record Check
· Provide a current and clear Alberta Child and Youth Intervention Record Check, as well as from all provinces resided in the past 3 years
· Have proficient computer skills

Responsibilities
  1. Program Coordinator
    · Submit timesheets, Leave of Absence forms and travel allowance forms via e-mail to Program Coordinator according to the Grande Prairie Payroll Schedule
    · Submit monthly reports
    · Notify of absence by 8:00am on day(s) missed
    · Notify of training needs
  2. Clientele
    · Assisting individuals with their immediate needs and concerns, offering support and guidance
    · Provide responsive and respectful supports to clients
    · Refer client(s) to appropriate services within the community, and suitable programming within GPFC—support in attending if requested
    · Ability to remain emotionally regulated when working with individuals who may be emotionally escalated
    · Refer to mental health and addictions peer support, (Pikiskwetan)
    · Build relationships with clients by visiting (connecting) with them as they access Kikinaw services
    · Encourage and provide support to help guide and reduce barriers for clients who would like to access community services, (i.e., detox/treatment, transportation)
    · Provide activities for Kikinaw clients accessing services
    · Advocate for health, economic, and social equity
    · Ensure client information is updated in client files as needed
    · Provide safety/resource supports
  3. Grande Prairie Friendship Centre
    · Be comfortable in assisting in other positions as requested
    · Participate in monthly/bi-monthly team building
    · Review and be familiar with GPFC Policies and Procedures
    · Maintain Oath of Confidentiality always
    · Promote Friendship Centre Movement in community
    · Enter stats and all other relevant information into GPFC Database daily/weekly
    · Adhere to GPFC safety policies and practices
  4. Community
    · Participate in ongoing communication with community services providing support to clients accessing Kikinaw, (i.e., Community Outreach Nurses, MOP, NorthReach, etc.)
    · Build professional networks and work in collaboration with a diverse range of community resources
    · Support clients through advocacy and warm referrals to appropriate community resources, helping to build connections within their community
