As professional outdoor educators, an OBS Instructor’s key role is to help others gain meaningful learning through outdoor adventure experiences. Starting as a Trainee Instructor, you will undergo 6 - 9 months of Basic Instructor Training (BIT) to learn the ropes of becoming an operational instructor.
After BIT, you will be assigned to conduct safe and quality OBS programmes such as the MOE-OBS Challenge programme, a nationwide initiative for all Secondary 3 students to learn about resilience, build empathy and positive mindset towards challenging situations. Throughout the programme, you will need to facilitate the participants’ learning and be responsible for their safety and well-being.
When you have gained a firm foundation of field experience, you will also have the opportunity to explore other career pathways in OBS, in areas such as programme development, staff training and operations management. These varied pathways will allow you to pursue your aspirations in the outdoor education industry and progress as a specialist in the field
