Description
The Role: High-Complexity, Zero Ordinary. Are you a diagnostic-minded technician tired of the dealership grind? Vanlife Customs is expanding its Service team who works on automotive and overland systems integration. We are looking for a Mechanical & Electrical Technician who thrives on the technical challenges of modern vehicle platforms (most often we work on the Ford Transit & Mercedes Sprinter). In this role, you will leave the run-rate car work behind. Instead, you will be responsible for upgrading and engineering the mechanical and electrical "nervous system" of $200k+ adventure vehicles. What You’ll Be Doing 1. Advanced 12V/48V Electrical Integration Building and commissioning complex power systems featuring Victron components, high-capacity Lithium (LiFePO4) banks, and high-output alternators. Interfacing with OEM vehicle data and power systems without compromising factory warranties. Custom harness fabrication, circuit protection, and system programming. 2. Performance Suspension & Chassis Precision installation of Agile Off-Road, Falcon and Fox suspension systems. Heavy-duty chassis upgrades: Handling packs, lifts and big-brake kits. Understanding and maintaining suspension geometry on heavily weighted overland builds. 3. Thermal & Fuel Systems Integration of Webasto/Espar gasoline and diesel fired heaters, including fuel-line tapping and diagnostic controller setup. Installation of secondary auxiliary fuel tanks and high-efficiency 12V/48V Air Con units. 4. External Engineering & Armor Surgical body modifications and installation of body accessories Mounting and wiring winches, high-output LED lighting arrays (Baja Designs/Rigid), skid-plates, molle systems, custom bumpers. Who You Are The Automotive Veteran: You have 4+ years of professional experience in a dealership, 4x4, or specialty performance shop. The Systems Expert: You don't just "install parts"; you understand how a dual-battery isolator works and how to investigate and troubleshoot CAN systems and modules. The Precision Operator: You own your own professional toolset and believe that if a wire isn't loomed and labeled, the job isn't done. The Creative Solver: You can look at a unique engineering hurdle and design a professional, reliable solution that looks factory-installed. Why Pros Choose Vanlife Customs Culture: We take our work very seriously. But we don't take ourselves too seriously. Growth: We are a successful and growing company, which means growth for you. Clean Work: This is not a "greasy" maintenance job. You primarily work on new or low-mileage, clean chassis. Complex Challenges: Every build is a one-off engineering project, not a repetitive service manual task. Top-Tier Tech: We use the best components in the industry, and integrate with vehicle systems such as Mercedes PSM. The Culture: We are a Google 4.9-star rated shop with a 15,000 sq ft facility, professional-grade equipment, and a team that respects your expertise. Requirements Proven experience with automotive electrical and/or suspension systems. Proficiency with diagnostic scan tools and electrical systems. Ability to read and interpret complex wiring schematics. A portfolio or examples of "clean" work (wiring, fabrication, etc.) is highly encouraged.
Responsibilities
You will be responsible for engineering and integrating complex mechanical and electrical systems into high-end adventure vehicles. This includes advanced 12V/48V power systems, performance suspension upgrades, and thermal/fuel system installations.
