REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Early Childhood Education, Disability Studies, Child and Youth Care Diploma or a Degree in human services.
  • Six months’ experience in family and youth work; two years’ experience preferred.
  • Six months’ experience in early childhood education and disability services; two years’ experience preferred.
  • Experience working with autistic children an asset.
  • Strong counselling, program planning, organizational and communication skills.
  • Experience in building relationships with community resources.
  • Knowledge of existing community resources and understanding of issues related to youth homelessness, including poverty, mental health, and addictions.
  • Strong documentation and assessment skills.
  • Strong computer skills (MS Office)
  • Current Standard First Aid CPR Level C or CSA Standard Z1210-17 Intermediate First Aid Certificate.
  • Clear Intervention Record Check and Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector dated within the past six months.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License, Driver’s Abstract, and use of reliable vehicle with $2M Third Party Liability insurance.
Responsibilities
  • Establish helping relationships with children aged 7-12 and their support networks.
  • Support the team environment.
  • Create positive interactions to enhance adaptive functioning, social skills, recreational opportunities, self-regulation skills, life-skills, and connection to the community for youth with significant disabilities.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of a wide range of intervention resources and methods.
  • Provide youth with guidance to assist them in addressing problem situations and/or behaviors
