POSITION TITLE: OVERNIGHT SHELTER SUPPORT WORKER

Position Term: October 17, 2025 – March 31, 2026
Location: Upper Room Mission Winter Shelter
Wage: 20.00 - 25.95 based on experience + $1 premium for overnight staff

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Overnight Shelter Support Worker plays a key role in maintaining a safe, clean, and restful environment for guests during overnight hours at the Winter Shelter. As front-line staff, they are responsible for ensuring guest safety, supporting basic needs, and completing light janitorial duties while guests sleep. This role requires strong observational skills, clear communication, and the ability to respond calmly and effectively to emergencies or disturbances. The overnight support worker collaborates closely with on-site security and morning staff to ensure a smooth transition into the daytime shelter schedule.

QUALIFICATIONS & ASSETS:

  • Experience in frontline, shelter, or support work preferred
  • A certificate in Human Services or related training is an asset.
  • Current First Aid, CPR, and Naloxone training required.
  • Strong crisis intervention, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to remain alert and responsive throughout overnight hours
  • Comfortable working with vulnerable or marginalized populations
  • Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector clearance required.
  • Strong English speaking, reading, and writing skills are necessary.
    Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Fixed term contract
    Contract length: 5 months
    Pay: $20.00-$25.95 per hour
