Job Overview
The P&C Commissioning Engineer will perform acceptance testing and pre-commissioning of protection and control (P&C) equipment in the factory using procedures set-forth by Systems Control and its utility partners.

A Day In The Life

  • Apply protective relay settings and perform testing that validates proper function
  • Apply RTU settings and verify status, metering, and control functions
  • Troubleshoot and problem-solve when deficiencies are identified
  • Perform testing procedures and document the results completely, in accordance with internal and customer-specific requirements
  • Keep up-to-date with utility industry trends and practices by attending relevant training opportunities
  • Provide technical support to engineering, manufacturing and test departments
  • Identify potential process improvements and collaborate with other team members
  • Notify designers and engineers of deficiencies identified during testing
  • Execute testing procedures that ensure elements of P&C design are properly applied and functioning as intended

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent education and experience
  • Minimum 1 year of testing electric utility P&C equipment
  • NFPA and OSHA safety certified, or ability to become certified
  • Commitment to continued education, training, and learning new tasks
  • Familiar with some electric utility industry testing and documentation requirements
  • General understanding of the operation, application, and testing of protective relays
  • Understand the importance of safe work practices associated with the electric utility industry
  • Ability to incorporate human performance tools into daily work practices
  • Familiar with RTU point assignments and checkout
  • Strong attention to detail with proven analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Self-starter able to work both in teams and individually with limited supervision
  • Familiar with electric utility P&C schematic and wiring diagrams
  • Competent with Microsoft Office Suite programs: Excel, Outlook, Word
