__________ GRADUATE RESEARCH SCHOOL TE KURA RANGAHUA TĀURA • A meaningful role advancing postgraduate success for Pacific students The role / Te mahi We are seeking a motivated and culturally grounded Pacific Postgraduate Advisor to support the delivery of a writing programme that enhances the academic success of Pacific postgraduate students, particularly Master’s (thesis) and doctoral candidates. This part‑time, fixed‑term role is based within the Graduate Research School and works closely with the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Pacific. The role contributes to a culturally responsive, strengths‑based support model for Pacific postgraduate students through targeted programme delivery, relationship building, and advocacy. The Pacific Postgraduate Advisor will foster student participation, strengthen internal and external networks, and support Pacific postgraduate student success and wellbeing within an agreed scope of activity. Key responsibilities include: • Supporting the design, coordination, and delivery of a writing programme for Pacific postgraduate students. • Planning and facilitating writing days, workshops, and related academic support initiatives. • Actively promoting student participation and engagement in programme activities. • Providing an appropriate academic support and advisory role for students (and, where relevant, supervisors) in relation to postgraduate study matters. • Building and maintaining collaborative relationships across the University, including the Graduate Research School, Te Tumu – School of Māori and Indigenous Studies, Pacific Islands Centre, Student Academic Skills, Centre for Educational Design and Innovation, and Associate Deans Pacific. • Establishing and maintaining connections with Pacific academic staff, Pacific student support staff, alumni, partner institutions, and Pacific communities. • Supporting effective communication with students, staff, and key stakeholders. • Contributing to monitoring, review, and evaluation of the programme to inform ongoing improvement. You will bring cultural integrity, energy, and creativity to your work and be comfortable advocating for Pacific postgraduate students within a complex tertiary environment. You will have: • A postgraduate qualification (minimum of a Master’s degree). • Demonstrated experience working with Pacific peoples and communities, ideally in a pastoral, professional, or academic support context. • Experience and/or qualifications demonstrating the ability to understand, apply, and uphold Pacific values, including established access to Pacific networks. • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to review and reflect on programme effectiveness. • Excellent oral and written communication skills. • Demonstrated initiative and effective problem‑solving skills.
