Packaging Manager
Location: Niles, IL
We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Packaging Manager to lead all packaging operations in our food manufacturing facility. This position oversees the planning, coordination, and execution of all bulk and co-manufactured production, ensuring safety, quality, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
The ideal candidate will have a strong, stable work history in food packaging (pharmaceutical packaging experience will also be considered), proven leadership in supervisory roles, and the ability to manage a large team—approximately 130 direct and indirect employees—in a fast-paced environment.
This is primarily a first-shift position, but flexibility is required to support split shifts or adjust hours as needed to assist other shifts.

QUALIFICATIONS:

10+ years of progressive management experience, ideally in food or pharmaceutical manufacturing/packaging.
*
Strong, consistent work history with proven supervisory/leadership roles.
*
Excellent leadership, team building, and communication skills.
*
Proficient in Microsoft Office and ERP/MRP systems.
*
Ability to analyze and improve production processes to reduce costs, waste, and downtime.
*
Financial acumen to prepare and manage budgets and track KPIs.
*
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field preferred; Green Belt certification a plus.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Flexibility to work primarily first shift but adjust schedule as needed to support other shifts.

Completion of all required GMP, HACCP, allergen, food safety, and company safety and HR training.

Responsibilities

Lead all packaging operations while ensuring employee safety, GMP, and food safety standards.

Manage and develop approximately 130 employees (direct and indirect), fostering a culture of ownership, accountability, and teamwork.

Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean principles (5S, root cause analysis, Kaizen).
*
Oversee staffing, training, and development of associates and supervisors to maintain high performance and engagement.
*
Monitor and improve operational performance, including labor and material variances, and maintain accurate production inventory.
*
Plan and maintain efficient work systems, KPIs, and policies to maximize productivity and quality.
*
Collaborate with cross-functional departments including Quality, Engineering, R&D, Maintenance, Inventory, Planning, Finance, and HR.
