Description

Lingo Staffing is looking to hire an experienced Packaging Design Engineer II for a reputable company located in Trumbull, CT!!
Packaging Design Engineer II is primarily responsible for defining and developing packaging designs and specifications that meet product requirements, ensuring protection, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness. Design activities will include, but not limited to creating 3D models, 2D drawings, assemblies, calculations, Bill of Material (BOM) creation, customer site visits to collect information of products or packaging components, update existing designs and documentation, and provide guidance and support to junior engineers. We translate complex engineering requirements into easy-to-understand manufacturing documentation.
Hours: Full time, 1st shift
Pay: Depending on experience

The key responsibilities of the Packaging Design Engineer II are:

  • Design and develop standard and custom packaging solutions using SolidWorks or NX, including 3D models, 2D drawings, and engineering documentation.
  • Collaborate with customers and internal teams to gather requirements, review designs, and ensure solutions meet all specifications.
  • Create and maintain BOMs, packaging specifications, and related technical documentation.
  • Evaluate components and designs for performance, manufacturability, cost-effectiveness, and compliance with industry standards.
  • Lead and participate in design reviews, testing, and validation of packaging solutions.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for design optimization and innovation.
  • Support and mentor junior engineers; continuously develop technical skills.
  • Document all processes, feedback, and design changes; perform additional duties as assigned.

THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE PACKAGING DESIGN ENGINEER II ARE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or Packaging Engineering.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in mechanical or structural design.
  • Proficiency in CAD tools, preferably SolidWorks and NX.
  • Strong knowledge of GD&T standards and engineering drawing practices (e.g., ASME Y14.5).
  • Experience with wooden/crate packaging, distribution packaging, and related testing/qualification standards (ASTM, ISTA, ISO, Mil-spec).
  • Solid understanding of protective packaging materials, cushion design, and manufacturing processes.
  • Familiarity with transportation and material handling for various equipment sizes.
  • Ability to accurately use measuring tools such as tape measures, calipers, and scales.
  • Knowledge of clean room packaging materials.
