EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in packaging design and development (consumer goods, food & beverage, pharmaceuticals, or similar industries preferred).
  • Strong knowledge in packaging materials, manufacturing processes, and sustainability practices.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks) and packaging testing protocols.
  • Strong project management and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of sustainability practices and regulatory requirements (e.g., FDA, ISO, ASTM).
  • Experience with automation and packaging machinery.
  • Familiarity with Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) tools.
  • Lean manufacturing or Six Sigma certification.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Lifting, pushing, pulling, bending, and twisting.
  • Occasional work on the manufacturing production floor.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

EMPLOYEE DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Packaging Engineer will be vital to the design, development, and implementation of packaging solutions that ensure product integrity, optimize costs, and support sustainability goals. The ideal candidate will collaborate cross-functionally with product development, manufacturing, logistics, and marketing teams to deliver high-quality packaging systems.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design and develop packaging for new and existing products, ensuring compliance with safety, regulatory, and quality standards.
  • Conduct packaging testing (e.g., drop, vibration, compression) to validate performance.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to source materials and evaluate packaging technologies.
  • Optimize packaging for cost, sustainability, and supply chain efficiency.
  • Work with multiple materials (Wood, Shrink Wrap, Cardboard, etc.) to develop packaging solutions.
  • Identify areas of process improvements and develop implementation steps with affected teams.
  • Create and maintain packaging specifications, drawings, and documentation.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and troubleshoot packaging-related issues in production or distribution.
  • Stay current with industry trends, materials, and technologies.
