The Packaging Engineer is responsible for managing the design/plan/validation and implementation of packaging cost savings ideas to meet the overall company cost savings targets.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Schedule: Mon- Fri, In office Tues-Thursday
Work Location: Oak Brooke, IL

Salary, based on experience and other qualifications: $61,000 to $104,000 annual with additional bonus potential.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Packaging, Engineering or related technical field required
  • 2+ years’ experience
  • Demonstrated ability to influence project direction by providing technical input to the planning and decision making process
  • Proven skills in project management, negotiation, technical problem solving and ability to perform these skills at an advanced level or higher
  • Ability to interact and collaborate with R&D groups, external resources, suppliers and consultants to achieve project objectives
  • Proficient written and verbal communications skills
  • Sound problem solving skills through collaboration and application of technical skills
  • Solid understanding and experience with paperboard, corrugate, film, plastics and glass packaging materials
  • Experience with TOPS/CAPE
  • Ability to travel up to 30% of tim

Responsibilities
  • Executes moderate to complex technical assignments to drive cost savings and plant efficiencies.
  • Functions as the Technical Leader for focused projects, providing direction and monitoring various associates, support groups or contractors as project dictates. Identifies and resolves technical conflicts, including resources, to ensure projects meet business expectations.
  • Designs, executes and analyzes experimentation.
  • Develops external industry network through work with suppliers, interactions and participation with technical organizations (IoPP, SPC, etc.).
  • Identifies basic opportunities that drive value into the company.
  • Conducts all activities in compliance with established safety standards and Good Manufacturing Principles (GMP).
