Overview Humboldt Sawmill Company (HSC) looking for Packaging Laborers to join our Planer team in Scotia, CA. This is on our Day Shift (Mon-Fri, 5:30am - 2:00pm). This is a non-exempt positions at an hourly rate of $24.87 and offer full benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, 401K match and company paid Life Insurance. The Mendocino Companies (Mendocino Forest Products Company, Mendocino Redwood Company, Humboldt Redwood Company, Humboldt Sawmill Company, and Allweather Wood) own nearly 450,000 acres of Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC® C031337) certificated redwood and Douglas-fir timberland, constitute the largest waterborne wood treater in the Western USA, and is the largest producer of redwood lumber in the world. Collectively providing 950 employees and their families with excellent wages and benefits in communities throughout the Western USA. Additionally, the Mendocino Companies own and operate a 25-megaWatt biomass cogeneration power plant and wood pellet plant. Responsibilities The Packaging Laborer will assist in various duties throughout the warehouse To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The key areas of focus for this position are as follows; Lumber piece pulls Banding Lumber track use Forklift Cleanup Barcoding Relief machine operator Lumber Wrapline Lumber treater helper Inventory/cycle counts Work in various departments as needed. Keeps equipment and work area clean Provides assistance where needed and performs a wide variety of jobs and duties as assigned, with a high level of proficiency and accuracy Qualifications High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Minimum six months related experience. Ability to train to obtain forklift certification. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to read and understand instructions and memos. Ability to write simple sentences. Basic Algebra Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, verbal, or diagram form. Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and communicate. The employee is occasionally required to sit and climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to smell. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close, distance, color, peripheral and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions, and vibration. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. This position requires eye protection, hearing protection, leather or rubber gloves, safety shoes, and hard hat.
