JOB OVERVIEW

An exciting new opportunity has opened up to lead our packaging team, overseeing and monitoring the packaging of our high-quality craft beer at our brewery.

REQUIREMENTS

  • A good standard of GCSE education with GCSE’s in the sciences preferred
  • 2 years+ experience working in beer production and/or packaging (or equivalent)
  • Excellent knowledge of the Craft Beer sector, the on trade and distribution methods
  • Excellent understanding of Beer & Brewing including methodology, beer styles, fermentation etc.
  • Good interpersonal skills

Responsibilities
  • Work Scheduling assistance - Work with the Head Brewer to plan the coming week’s shifts, work allocation and highlight any challenges
  • Work allocation oversight - Oversee weekly schedule and day-to-day allocation of work within the packaging teams
  • Compliance assistance – ensure business and team meet all regulatory and audit objectives met (COSHH, SALSA, Food Hygiene Level 2 etc). To include but not limited to ingredient tracking, brew variability tracking, gravity monitoring, chemical storage and ensuring all necessary paperwork completed and filed in accordance with the requirements of the SALSA audit standard
  • Health & Safety assistance – ensure teams up to date on all H&S procedures, work with chemicals responsibly, and operate all necessary equipment/machinery in a safe and efficient manner
  • Hygiene oversight for packaging – Oversee regular hygiene practices and record keeping for the canning machine, kegs, casks and other vessels.
  • Packaging process oversight, with activities responsible for including but not limited to canning, CIP and COP of the canning machine, canning machine maintenance, leading keg and cask filling, required quality checks.
  • Consultation on new equipment.
  • Product Approval assistance – Shared responsibility with Head Brewer for approving product progression and for approval of final product for packaging
  • Quality Approval oversight - Shared responsibility with Head Brewer for product quality assurance (CO2, DO, TPO monitoring)
  • Goods in oversight – With the Head Brewer oversee goods in processing for packaging materials.
  • Packaging material oversight – Oversee stock management with overall responsibility for all packaging and supplementary materials (see Packaging Items document for complete list). Also to include regular stock takes at the request of the Head Brewer
  • Cellar management oversight – work closely with the warehouse, brewery and packaging teams to ensure all packaged stock is put away in a tidy and timely manner in accordance with first in first out principals
  • Equipment maintenance oversight - Oversee operation and upkeep of equipment within the packaging areas. Ensure regular preventative maintenance of sensitive items such as the canning line
  • Efficiency oversight – Work with the Head Brewer to co-ordinate and target efficiencies and to improve product yields and reduce production costs
  • Training Co-ordination – Work with the Head Brewer to co-ordinate the training for all team members and oversee the day to day ‘on the job’ training
  • Review and improve SOPs for packaging, working together with experienced packaging operators and Head Brewer.
  • Team Meeting Co-ordination – work with the Head Brewer to plan and run regular team meetings and lead daily huddles with team for work allocation and updates.
  • Manage the packaging team, leading by example, with a focus on continuous personal improvement, positive attitude and teamwork.
  • Work together with Head Brewer on personal performances reviews, ensuring packaging team operatives get appropriate training and development to improve quality and proceed with their career.
  • Represent the brewery at industry events and through occasional brewery tours.
