JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

Packaging Technician II is responsible for performing advanced bottling, labeling and packaging processes according to established procedures and work instructions. This includes the ability to operate analytical packaging equipment, and the set up and assembly of all kit and set finished goods inventory. He/she will be responsible for maintaining bulk inventories, providing material for internal/external customers, and receiving and recording returned goods including purified antibody, dyes and conjugate products. He/she will be accountable for performing accurate material transactions, investigating discrepancies, performing inventory cycle counts, and providing a high level of customer service completing packaging orders accurately and on-time.
He/she must be able to read, understand, verify and complete all packaging documentation including batch records, standard operating procedures and/or work instructions and material requests. The Packaging Technician II will be primarily responsible for preparing, verifying and executing packaging orders as well as coordinating training of all new Packaging associates. He/she must possess intermediate to advanced computer skills as well as employ critical thinking and analytical skills. The Packaging Technician II must have the ability to prepare the finished products with the highest quality, prioritize the work schedule and deliver the package to the downstream Quality Assurance team so that shipment expectations are met. His/her duties also include writing and updating SOPs, evaluating current processes and providing improvement recommendations. He/she must be familiar with SAP, FileMaker and can update and maintain data within our business systems.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • High school Diploma or equivalent
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills (will perform dilution and concentration calculations)
  • Perform intermediate math calculations
  • 4-6 years laboratory and/or pharmaceutical/biotech manufacturing and/or bottling/packaging experience preferred.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Good organizational skills with ability to prioritize tasks
  • Self-motivated, must have ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient learner with new tasks and methods
  • Previous experience with SAP or other ERP systems is highly desirable.
  • An understanding of antibody production manufacturing processes is preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities
  1. Understand all Packaging Technician I and II responsibilities, advanced dispense and bottling techniques (e.g. test size bottling, NALE product bottling), kit set up and assembly procedures and intermediate to advanced Custom Order processing abilities.
  2. Good at using the following packaging equipment include but not limited to scales/ balances, manual pipetteman and stream pipettors, and zebra label printer.
  3. Documentation: Initiate and author packaging Work Instructions and SOPs; Initiate and process Engineering Change Requests and Quality Notifications; Generate Packaging process documentation; Review completed Batch Records and supporting packaging documentation for completeness and accuracy; Log, maintain and generate packaging statistics and prepare reports as required.
  4. Ability to train all Packaging Associates on bottling, labeling and packaging processes.
  5. Understand and input packaging data, as required, in the SAP system and/or other Production Planning/Manufacturing Resource database system(s).
  6. Maintain bulk inventories and integrity of paper and electronic records. Support HP packaging supplies and material management function including storing, retrieving and staging supplies/materials as required.
  7. Meet daily HP production objectives efficiently and effectively with a high degree of quality.
  8. Must have a thorough understanding of sterile and hazardous product bottling techniques.
  9. Lead and support Continuous Improvement and Process Improvement initiatives.
  10. Follow all department guidelines and procedures. Follows BD Biosciences Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S) policies and procedures. Takes responsibility for safety in immediate work area. Participates in EH&S programs. Notifies supervisors of all observed hazardous conditions or unsafe work practices. May provide recommendations on maintaining the safety of the work environment.
  11. Conduct cycle counts of all bulk inventories under control of Operations on a schedule determined by the supervisor.
  12. Performs other related duties and assignments as required.
