Piper Companies is looking for a highly experienced and hands-on Packet Process Architect to join a cutting edge startup onsite in Saratoga, CA. The ideal Packet Process Architect possesses deep technical expertise in ASIC-based switching and routing platforms and will play a key role in architecting and evolving next-generation packet processing engines.

Responsibilities for the Packet Process Architect:

  • Architect and design packet processing engines for high-performance networking systems.
  • Collaborate with ASIC and system design teams to define and implement switching, routing, and forwarding architectures.
  • Lead discussions on table management, lookup engines, parsing and packaging logic, and protocol capabilities.
  • Drive architectural decisions for support of advanced network protocols such as VXLAN, BGP, IPv6 Segment Routing, and others.
  • Participate in deep-dive technical reviews with cross-functional teams and the CTO.
  • Maintain a 100% hands-on role in architecture, design validation, and performance optimization.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior architects and engineers.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE PACKET PROCESS ARCHITECT:

  • 15+ years of experience in networking architecture, with a focus on packet processing.
  • Proven experience working with ASIC-based switching and routing platforms
  • Deep understanding of forwarding architectures, lookup tables, parsing engines, and network protocol processing.
  • Hands-on experience with VXLAN, BGP, IPv6 Segment Routing, and other modern networking protocols
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work closely with CTO and senior leadership.
  • Masters in Electrical Engineering preferred
