INFORMATION ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT This is a full-time post with the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (LTHT) for a period of six months (with a possible extension of a further six months). The Fellow will be attached to a large multi-professional Chronic Pain Management Service and will have no on-call duties. The post is based within the Chronic Pain Management Department that sees 1500 new outpatients annually. The successful applicant will join an existing team of 5 Consultants in Pain Medicine, 2 clinical psychologists, 1 pharmacist, 6 specialist nurses and 3 research nurses.
MEDICAL STAFF IN THE DEPARTMENT Dr G Baranidharan Consultant and Clinical Lead in Pain Medicine Dr S Black Consultant in Pain management Dr C Montgomery Consultant in Pain management Dr J Titterington Consultant in Pain management Dr A Whelan Consultant in Pain management KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED Please see Person Specification The appointee must have completed pain medicine training and should be able to provide basic pain medicine clinics and interventions. The appointee must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in Pain Medicine. The appointee must have FRCA (or other equivalent) and have full registration with the General Medical Council. The appointee must have or be working towards FFPMRCA or equivalent.
Applicants must provide information regarding their status from the GMC and/or relevant Royal College at the time of application, so that their application can be considered. DUTIES OF THE POST To work with Chronic Pain Management colleagues in the provision of a comprehensive and high standard of service in chronic pain management at the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. To develop and/or consolidate expertise in Pain Medicine and neuromodulation. The post will provide comprehensive experience in Neuromodulation To maintain and expand the excellence of teaching, audit and research already established within LTHT.
To support service plans for the Pain Management in relation to changes in clinical practice and new technologies. To participate in Clinical Governance and appraisal. LEVELS OF RESPONSIBILITY Speciality Registrar level. TEACHING AND RESEARCH/STUDY AND TRAINING The Trust as a Teaching hospital recognises the importance of links with the University of Leeds School of Medicine for the Undergraduate teaching and all medical staff are expected to provide an appropriate contribution to the undergraduate teaching programme.
The precise details of the contribution to teaching will be discussed with the appointee after taking up post. The appointee will be expected to contribute to Audit meetings, mortality and morbidity meetings and application of agreed clinical guidelines. And for this to be included in allocated time in the individuals job plan as a supporting programmed activity (or part of one). It would be expected that the time allocated for this would include attendance at the relevant departmental audit meeting(s) and that such attendance would be recorded (in accordance with the Trusts clinical audit policy).
In the discharge of these responsibilities the appointee will be expected to maintain and update his/her skills and knowledge through appropriate continuing medical education
