SUMMARY Under general supervision, the Paint Prep is responsible for the final finishing of manufactured metal components, such as side dump trailers and feeding systems. This individual will meticulously prepare fabricated steel surfaces, mix and set up the paint system, and apply final coats. The ideal candidate will possess specialized painting expertise, ensuring a high-quality, durable finish that meets all company and client standards. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES * Surface Preparation: * Operate equipment to clean, wash, strip, sand, and remove corrosion to thoroughly prepare fabricated steel items for painting. * Perform inspections of welds and prepared surfaces before moving forward with coating. * Paint Application & System Management: * Set up the paint system for the appropriate pre-determined paint formula and operate the necessary mixing equipment. * Operate spray equipment or other painting/coating equipment as required to achieve a smooth, consistent, and durable finish. * Read orders to complete the correct paint schematic for the specific piece of equipment. * Calculate and monitor the levels of paint needed for each part or piece of equipment. * Maintenance & Safety: * Clean and maintain painting, coating, ventilation, compressed air, and personal protective equipment (PPE). * Practice safety awareness at all times and adhere to standard safety procedures, especially within the paint booth. * Perform preventative maintenance on painting equipment as directed. * General Responsibilities: * Complete all necessary paperwork and logs for completed equipment and paint usage. * Manage time effectively to meet required production deadlines. * Work collaboratively in a team environment. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: * High school diploma or GED equivalent. * Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in heavy industrial painting or coating application is required. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: * Working knowledge of tools, supplies, and equipment used in industrial painting and finishing (e.g., sprayers, sandblasters, mixers). * Demonstrated commitment to safety procedures, including proper use of ventilation and PPE. * Ability to read, comprehend, and write English at an advanced level (to follow paint schematics and safety instructions). * Strong communication and teamwork skills. * Ability to solve problems related to paint preparation and application quality (e.g., runs, insufficient coverage). PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS * Ability to pass a FIT test to safely wear required respiratory protection in the paint booth. * Must wear appropriate clothing and personal protective equipment (PPE) for all operations. * Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds frequently and occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds. * Continually required to stand and walk for extended periods. * Frequently required to utilize hand and finger dexterity. * Occasionally required to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel, or crawl.
