We have an immediate opening for a qualified painter, who will be responsible to prepare surfaces for painting, then apply paint, varnish, wallpaper and other finishes to protect, maintain and decorate interior and exterior surfaces of domestic, commercial and industrial buildings and other structures.

Duties:

• Set up ladders and scaffolds to allow access to unreachable places. Also place drop sheets to avoid paint splatters in unwanted areas. * Remove old paint or paper using sanders, scrapers, heat guns, liquid paint removers and steam strippers as appropriate * Prepare surfaces by fixing woodwork, filling or sealing holes, cracks and joints, and washing them down using high pressure wash systems to remove dust and grease * Determine the quantity of materials needed for the job by taking surface measurements or by looking at job specifications or drawings * Select and prepare paints to match colours by adding tinters * Brush, roll or spray paint using a spay gun or specialized equipment of stains, varnishes and other finishes * Apply wallpaper, set out the area according to the pattern match and starting point in the room, cut the paper to the appropriate length, apply paste to the back of each strip and hang the paper on the wall, smoothing out any wrinkles or bubbles * Apply decorative paint finishes such as stencils, colour glaze, graining, marbling and lettering, gold leaf and texture finishes * Creating unique paint and colour combinations based on client specifications * Cleaning equipment and work areas * Liaising with the painting team and directors on projects to ensure proper communication, a smooth process and polished finish

Qualifications:

• Certificate III or higher qualification in related discipline plus 2 years’ experience * At least 3 years’ experience in lieu of qualifications * High level of creativity and confidence in artistic vision

• Valid driver’s license * White Card * EWP Tickets * Strong communication skills * Ability to work independently and complete projects within timeframe * Demonstrated artistic skills is desirable Support and practice Health & Safety practices * Work well within a team, as well as independently * Reliable, punctual and self-motivated * Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills * Positive and friendly attitude towards work and others * Have a methodical approach to work practices with strong emphasis on quality
