Overview About the Role Does varied tasks involved in performing general and specialized (decorative) painting work, including surface preparation, mixing, matching and applying paints, varnishes, stains and other materials and in painting, repainting and varnishing the interior and exterior of buildings and their furnishings by the brush, roller, spray or other assigned method of application. Installs murals, special fabrics, and vinyl wall coverings. Assists with job planning and layouts. Responsibilities What You’ll Do Washes walls and woodwork, scrapes old and loose paint from varied types of surfaces, applies putty to holes needing to be filled, patches and plasters walls where needed; uses primers and sealers, sizes reinforcing oils, paint removers, spackling compounds, binders, thinners, solvents and driers. Prior to the painting process, mixes paints to the proper consistency; matches colors, and as needed, adds coloring; uses enamels, oil paints, water‐based paints, lacquers, shellac, varnishes, and stains. Using the brush, roller, spray or other assigned method of application, paints wood, metal, brick and cement walls, floors, and ceilings and the interior and exterior of buildings. Using the brush, roller, spray or other assigned method of application, paints and repaints pipes, radiators, and other types of iron works. Does needed work prior to the painting and repainting of tin roofs and varied types of fan equipment and machinery and when so required, operates related painting equipment Qualifications What You’ll Bring Required: Technical school diploma or an equivalent level of knowledge, plus (5) years of comprehensive experience in work involving the painting and repairing of the interior and exterior of buildings and structures.
