Description
SCOPE: Perform functions to supervise the operations of the paper mill and converting area, including set up, assignment of staff, and organizing mill area to maintain and supervise the safe and efficient operations, as guided by precedent and while working within the limits of established policies.  Continuously supports Sofidel’s Employee Personal Practice Policy. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Supports Sofidel America’s Good Manufacturing Practices and HACCP to promote a safe, sanitary and hygienically sound workplace. 2. Interview, select, recommend, hire, train and supervise assigned staff. Assign and check work. Provide direction to staff and assist in the investigation and resolution of problems. Evaluate performance and provide counseling and coaching to employees. Initiate personnel actions, such as promotions, transfers, terminations, or disciplinary measures. Determine current and future staffing levels. 3. Provide training for new employees. Train employees on process and correct method of controlling and maintaining the operating of the paper mill. Instruct new employees on safety procedures of the paper mill. 4. Determine required operating supplies. Coordinate with employees to ensure that correct materials are delivered and fed to mill as required. 5. Examine production area prior to beginning of shift. Contact housekeeping and resolve any problems and issues involving finished products. Conduct meetings prior to shift to review safety procedures and production orders. Communicate issues at end of shift with next mill production shift. 6. Respond to issues involving mill production. Troubleshoot issues with quality control of finished product and employee issues. 7. Monitor movement of product from off load to inventory to ensure proper handling, product identification and placement 8. Coordinate with Human Resources Manager involving issues relating to productivity, safety and disciplinary actions with employees. 9. Assist in the identification of equipment problems and in the repair and servicing of equipment and parts as needed. 10. Participate in process improvement efforts by observing and communicating aspects of the process that may be modified or improved. Participate in paper mill and converting safety and process improvement committees, recommend policies and improvements. 11. Assist with housekeeping duties; maintain the organization and cleanliness of the facility. 12. Observe and comply with proper safety procedures at all times.   OTHER DUTIES MAY INCLUDE: 1. Perform or assist with any operations, as required to maintain workflow and to meet schedules and quality requirements. Notify supervision of unusual equipment or operating problems and the need for additional material and supplies. 2. Maintain safe work area and comply with safety procedures and equipment operating rules keeping work area in a clean and orderly condition.  Support quality, housekeeping and sanitation standards as well as assuring customer satisfaction 3. Participate in any variety of meetings and work groups to integrate activities, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems and maintain specified level of knowledge pertaining to new developments, requirements, policies, and regulatory guidelines. 4. Perform other related duties as assigned.   TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED: Employee will use computer and peripherals, standard and customized software applications and tools, and usual office   Education/Experience:   Associate Degree preferred. High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Possess basic computer skills.  Language Ability: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and quality and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Math Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. PPE will include safety shoes, eye and ear protection, reflective vests and hairnets or hats along with any other necessary protection. Temperatures in the plant/warehouse can range a great deal from season to season. The employee will be exposed to considerable paper dust and employees will also be exposed to noise levels that will require hearing protection.
