The Aboriginal Legal Service (ALS) was established in a critical act of self-determination over 50 years ago as part of the Aboriginal rights protest movement. We provide high-quality, culturally safe legal and support services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people throughout NSW and the ACT, and fight for social justice and equity for our communities.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

In this role, you will be an integral and valued member of a highly skilled and high-performing Care & Protection/Family Law Practice. The Paralegal will support the practice by delivering legal support to Aboriginal clients, including research, file management, admin tasks, and liaising with legal professionals and community stakeholders. You will:

  • Provide high-level paralegal support in Care & Protection/Family Law, including drafting documents, legal research, court assistance, and client interviews.
  • Manage administrative tasks such as file handling, data entry, statistical reporting, and maintaining confidentiality and professional standards.
  • Prepare legal documents and correspondence using Microsoft Office Suite, and perform general admin duties like scanning, photocopying, and filing.
  • Liaise with courts, government and non-government agencies, and other legal professionals to support client matters.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members and adapt to new systems and technologies to support the legal practice.
  • Uphold workplace safety, ethical conduct, and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural practices, while staying informed on ALS policies and procedures.
