JOB SUMMARY

The Legal Department currently has a position available for a Legal Assistant / Paralegal to work full time (Monday – Friday 9am – 5pm), mainly in the commercial/contractual side of the business (with the main duties being the business’ debt recovery portfolio). This is an exciting opportunity to develop the skillset needed for a future career, the SQE, as well as first-hand experience of working with a busy legal team, both in Court and behind the scenes.
The business specialises in the distribution of ethnic food to Retail Stores across the country and currently has depots based in Sunderland, Barking, Hayes, Darlaston and Newport with Cwmbran being the Head Office.

Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Perform research on applicable regulations, laws on behalf of the Legal Manager

  • Discover facts of case
  • Collects and organises evidence and other important papers for lawyers to review
  • Keeps client files organised and up to date in paper and/or electronic format
  • Handling a large caseload
  • Drafting formal legal documents, such as contracts and pleadings, as well as correspondence with clients and other parties
  • Prepares reports for lawyers in anticipation of trial
  • Gathers formal statements from parties and witnesses for use in court
  • Assists during trial by taking notes, preparing exhibits, and reading court transcripts
  • Files documents, such as briefs and appeals, with court and other parties
  • Arranges meetings and depositions with clients, witnesses, and other lawyers
  • Contacts clients to investigate the case and keep them apprised of the case’s status
  • Attends to basic administrative tasks, such as photocopying, making and receiving phone calls, and fielding correspondence
  • Writing reports
